At our Summer Tea & Talk, our quarterly Client Engagement event, we were both delighted and intrigued by a presentation given on the craft of guitar-making. Laurence (who works for Atkins Guitars in Canterbury) not only described the process of guitar-building but also delighted our Clients with a demonstration of his musical prowess on both classical and electric guitars that he had personally built. Research indicates that more than 90% of people living with dementia continue to respond positively to familiar music, even in the later stages of the condition. Music engages areas of the brain that are often preserved, which is why a simple melody can communicate and connect when words no longer can.
