Distant Shores - money through music for dementia research
No Place Like Home is delighted to support Lorraine Bruce, daughter of one of our clients, in her new campaign to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Lorraine says
"I began composing this piano piece during the first year of my Music Degree but could never find the inspiration or motivation to finish it until now!
In January of this year after a spell in hospital and the local cottage hospital, my lovely mum was diagnosed with dementia. Mum and I had a very close and special relationship, especially since my dad passed away eight years ago, and I had noticed changes in her personality and behaviour for the past year or so.
Following her diagnosis I began researching to find out about more about dementia, and how as a family we could help my mum continue to live a full and happy life in her own home. I am happy to say that with the help and support of carers and especially from No Place Like Home mum is continuing to lead a happy and content life in her own home with regular visits from friends and family.
The more I researched and learned about dementia and the devastating affect it can have on all those affected, including carers and family members, I realised more research was needed. And so my drive, inspiration and motivation for finishing my composition was reborn.
The piece is an evocative piece of music dedicated to my mum and can be downloaded for as little as £1 with proceeds being donated to support the fantastic work of Alzheimer's Research UK.
The track has now been distributed to various online media stores and also is available to buy on iTunes at the following link: http://itunes.apple.com/album/id1126090292?ls=1&app=itunes
